Voter Registration

We organize voter registration activities from time to time, enlisting the help of our members who have completed training and examination required to be appointed as Volunteer Deputy Registrars to help people register to vote or update their voter registration information.  We traditionally are out and about on National Voter Registration Day in September of each year.

Voters Guides & VOTE411.org

We collect information from candidates running in local elections for inclusion in VOTE411, the League’s online Voter Guide, so that voters can have the opportunity to see who will be on their ballot and read candidates’ responses to questions about their qualifications for office and positions on issues.

We also purchase the printed Voters Guides that LWVTX Texas prepares for each election so that voters can read about constitutional amendments and candidates who are running for state or federal office. Our Voters Guide distribution team works to place Voters Guides around the community in locations such as libraries, coffee shops, Chambers of Commerce offices, and other public places so that Voters can easily spot them and take one home to do their research before going to vote.

Early Voting Campaign & Election Date Reminders

We know that people lead busy lives with many competing demands for their time, and - because of the high voter registration rate in our area - that people are interested in voting. Busy lives and not apathy or disinterest in voting is a likely explanation for the low voter turnout that we sometimes see.

We help remind voters that early voting has started by placing our “Voter dog” yard signs around the community and offering other reminders such as the last date to register to vote when to apply to a mail-in ballot to help people make a plan to vote.

Candidate Forums & Meetups

From time to time, we host nonpartisan candidate forums or meet and greets to provide opportunities for voters to learn about candidates in a nonpartisan setting.
