What Is Lobby Days?
Lobby Days is a gathering of League members in Austin each year when the Texas Legislature is in session. It is designed to provide an opportunity for local League members to hear briefings from LWVTX issue chairs and partner organizations on priority issues and visit their elected reprentatives at the Capitol, using information from the issue briefings to inform their conversations.
LWVTX's priority issues for this legislative session are Voting Rights & Election Law, Women's Health & Reproductive Rights, Gun Safety, and Public Education.
Day 1 (Monday, Feb 27) will begin at 12:00 noon at the Holiday Inn on Middle Fiskville Road in Austin with lunch and briefings that should wrap up around 4:00 pm. The Women Power Texas dinner, LWVTX's major fundraising dinner of the year, will be held at 7:00 that evening at the UT Etter-Harbin Alumni Center.
Day 2 (Tuesday, Feb 28) is the day we will vsit with our elected officials at the Capitol. We will coordinate with other Leagues that share our legislative and senatorial districts to schedule those visits.
Member Cindy Meredith attended 2019 Lobby Days and says, "Being in Austin with League members from all across Texas and sitting across the table from our elected officials made me realize how much power we have when we work together. It felt like we were making an impact, and that felt great!" |
